We had a good turnout on a beautiful Fall Sunday on Lake Berryessa for the first tournament of the 2018-2019 Season! Thanks to the 24 Teams that braved the wind in the afternoon and the accident on Highway 80 at 5:00 am in the morning! The 1st event of the Pasote Tequila & Berryessa Bass Tournaments Circuit for the 2018-2019 Season was on October 14, 2018 and hosted out of Markley Cove. There was little wind at the lake at blast off and a decent breeze at weigh-in, but not too bad. The lake is still fishing pretty tough for most of the field. Lots of teams struggled all day. Evidence was the weights being low and limits tough to get for most teams. In the Youth Division, First Place with 4.73lbs went to Gavin Cohen. In Second Place, Dario Fernandez and Eric Perkins weighed a sack of 2.27lbs. Third Place went to Matt Dettling. The bite has been pretty tough with the water falling! It’s all about finding that bait that is 2” and bigger! Most teams reported catching their fish at 20’ – 40’ feet. I had to fizz a lot of fish with 100% success rate! Winning bag did not have to be fizzed! Water temps are into the 70’s range with the water clarity fairly clear to murky. Teams reported catching their fish on Spoons, Shakeyhead, Drop Shot, Crankbaits, Deps Side Swimmer and S-Wavers. Most teams were fishing all over main body of the lake until the wind blew the boats into places to hide from the wind! First Place went to Young Guns Joe Mariani and Luke Lipanovich who decided not to fish in the wind on the Delta in their TOC and ended up with a nice sack that weighed 19.45lbs and was anchored with a 5.50lb kicker for 1st Place Big Fish! Second Place went to Ron Moore and Steve Kendrick who brought in a sack that weighed 13.33lbs. Third Place went to Rich Hamilton and Eric Leet with a sack that weighed 12.93lbs. With a Fourth Place finish, Mike Nichelini and Carl Keller weighed in 12.75lbs. In Fifth Place, with a sack of 12.59lbs & a 2nd Place Big Fish of 4.12lbs was weighed in by Bob Dettling and Jason Kincannon. Sixth Place was Bill Downs and Philip Lopez with 12.17lbs. This is the Eleventh tournament in a row that at least one of our youth teams has been in the money! Youth Team took home First Place again! Keep it up Youths – You are our FUTURE!
